Photo Workshop by Kayak

The beauty of photography is that we’re all constantly learning. Everyone from amateurs to experts are welcome on this tour. First thing first! We’ll begin with a light introduction to our cameras. As we paddle towards the outer archipelago, we use this time to familiarise ourselves with our surroundings and get comfortable with photographing from our kayaks.

We discuss the different elements of photography and how we can creatively manipulate them to enhance our images. Then it’s all about putting it all into practice, through workshops and fun challenges! Both on land and from our kayak. It’s important to not always look at the world through our lenses. We sometimes need to see what’s in front of us first, and then think about how we can capture it.

We continue learning how to approach a scene or subject, and examine the compositions available, through different styles of photography. The Kupa Klint lookout offers amazing opportunities for Landscape and Macro. On Stora Tallskär, arguably one of the most beautiful and wild islands in the archipelago, we experiment with Portraiture and Adventure photographic styles.

Natural light runs like a red thread through the entire tour. Some mornings we get up extra early to catch the soft rays of the rising sun illuminate the forest. We always plan so that we can make the most out of the golden and blue hour, of course. There is also no light pollution out here! We try our hand at night photography, astro photography, light painting and night portraiture.

Once back on the mainland, we spend half a day on photo editing sessions in cosy cabins by the waterfront. Here we truly discover the cyclical nature of photography – how our plans for post-production affects our initial creative approach. The whole evening is ours to go through all our pictures, play around with edits, and critique each others work.
